Here are obituaries of HPD family members.
Abad
Jesse Abad died Jan. 10. He is the father of Senior Police Officer Xavier Abad of the Human Resources Division, Recruiting Unit. He also is the father-in-law of Officer Johanna G. Abad of the Public Affairs Division and Senior Police Officer Stephen C. Turner of the Training Division. Services were held Jan. 13 with burial in Klein Memorial Park Cemetery in Magnolia.
Ashford
Mrs. Sylvia E. Ashford died Jan. 23. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Roosevelt "Rooster" Ashford of the Air Support Division. Services were held in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on Jan. 30.
Baez
Mrs. Maria Baez died Jan. 22. She is the mother of Sgt. Ricardo Baez of the Airport/Hobby Division. Services were held Jan. 25 with burial in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
Brown
Mrs. Sarah E. Brown died Jan. 12. She is the sister of Sgt. Timothy M. Dillon of the Internal Affairs Division. Services were held Jan. 15.
Comer
Senior Police Officer Donald E. Comer of the South Central Division died Jan. 19. He joined the department on March 4, 1985 and served more than 24 years. He is survived by his brother Christopher and aunt, Mrs. Dianna Merritis.
Dirzanowski
Frank J. Dirzanowski died Jan. 3. He is the father-in-law of retired Lt. Earl D. Musick, who retired on May 15, 1999 from Burglary and Theft. He also is the grandfather of Sgt. Robert E. Musick of the Northeast Division and Sgt. Erin C. Musick of the North Division.
Eveline
Johnnie Bell Eveline died Jan. 28. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Roy D. Eveline of the South Central Division. Services were held Feb. 5 with burial in Cemetery Beautiful.
Facundo
Silvia Facundo died Jan. 28. She is the sister of Senior Police Officer Jesus Facundo of the Special Operations Division. Services were held Feb. 1 with burial in Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Edinburg.
Fletcher
Mildred Fletcher died Jan. 10. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer Jacqueline F. Washington of the Southeast Division. Services were held Jan. 16 with burial in Houston Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Pearland.
Fults
Retired Homicide Detective Drayton M. "Doc" Fults, who retired from HPD on March 7, 1983 after serving 36 years, died Jan. 11. At the time of his retirement he was assigned to Homicide. He joined the department on June 5, 1946. He is survived by his wife, Emily and sons Scott and Drayton Fults of Houston.
Garza
Senior Police Officer Joel Garza of the Vehicular Crimes Division died Jan. 27. Officer Garza joined HPD out of Police Academy Class No. 132 on Oct. 14, 1985. During his 24-year career he served in the Traffic/Accident Division, Vice, Special Ops, Central Division and Vehicular Crimes Division. He is survived by his wife Hilda Mariela and sons Eric and Christian. Eric is an HPD officer assigned to the Traffic Enforcement Division. Services were held Jan. 30 with burial in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
Henry
Deacon Albert Henry died Jan. 15. He is the uncle of Senior Office Assistant Dormetra Henry Adams of the Criminal Investigative Command and Senior Police Officer Tina L. Henry-Reece of the Northeast Division. A funeral mass was held Jan. 20 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.
Herrera
Maximina R. Herrera died Jan. 26. She is the mother of retired Senior Police Officer Olga V. Vasquez, who retired Dec. 27, 2008 from the Eastside Division. She also is the grandmother of Senior Inspector John C. Aranda of the Dangerous Buildings Division. Services were held Jan. 30 with burial in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
Marsh
James L. Marsh died Jan. 12. He is the father of Lt. Michael Darin Marsh of the Jail Division. Services were held Jan. 18 with burial in Klein Cemetery in Magnolia.
Mounsey
Mrs. Joan Mounsey died Jan. 28. She is the mother of Senior Police Officer John J. Mounsey of the Northwest Division. Services were held Feb. 1 with burial in Houston National Cemetery.
Pettus
Rosalie Pettus died Jan. 13. She is the grandmother of Sgt. David K. Morgan of the Vehicular Crimes Division. Services were held Jan. 23 with burial in Southern Memorial Park Cemetery in San Antonio.
Reyes
Gabriel Reyes died Jan. 23. He is the brother of Senior Police Officer Gilbert H. Reyes, who was assigned to Narcotics and died off-duty last July 17. He also is the uncle of Probationary Police Officer Christopher R. Reyes of the North Division and brother-in-law of Sgt. Joe K. Slover of Northwest Division. A funeral mass was held Jan. 28 with burial in Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
Ruiz
Mrs. Diamantina Ruiz died Jan. 12. She is the aunt of Senior Police Officer Joe Ramos III of the Special Operations Division. A memorial mass was held Jan. 20 with burial at Collins Cemetery in Alice.
Simmons
Mrs. Elizabeth Simmons died Jan. 7. She is the grandmother of Sgt. Eddie C. Thomas III of the Emergency Communications Division. Services were held Jan. 16.
Watt
Esther Alexander Watt died Jan. 7. She is the wife of retired Lt. William Jean Watt, who retired from HPD's Robbery Division on April 28, 2004 after serving more than 35 years. She also is the mother of former Officer Lance A. Watt, currently assistant U. S. Attorney for the Southern District Office. She also is the cousin of Senior Police Officer Thomas A. Grimes of the Field Training Division and Senior Police Officer Russell C. Grimes of the Tactical Operations Division. Services were held Jan. 16.
