The First Court Cases
The first court case contained three cases:
Whitney Britton
He was found guilty of assault and battery and fined five dollars.
Joseph T. Bell
He was tried for murder, however the jury said they would have done the same thing and let him go.
James Adams
He was found guilty of larceny and was ordered to repay the complaintant
two hundred and ninety-five dolars, that he receive thirty-nine lashes
on the bare back and that he be branded with the letter "T" on the back
of his right hand. The punishment was carried out in a public place in
Houston.
