The Legendary Officer

Who was Officer W.C. "Tiny" Romund?

Most Houstonians knew Officer Tiny; all North Houston criminals knew him well. While the kids loved him, the crooks loathed him. Tiny was the biggest Houston Police Officer on record. He was so large and so tall, that he had his own car furnished by the department. The front seat had to be taken out and mounted on the floor within inches of the back seat. His weight was so incredible that when Tiny was in the car it sagged on the left side.

Officer W.C. "Tiny " Romund died on June 7, 1973 after suffering a heart attack several days earlier. A column in the July 1973 Badge and Gun stated, "A legend came to the Houston Police Department. It blossomed to fulfillment; then died. But out memory of his beautiful heart shall never succumb."
