Early in 2003 the HPOU, as the elected Bargaining Agent for all Houston police officers, met with Chief Bradford regarding Houston Police Academy cadets qualifying for Veterans Benefits as they go through their academy instructions.

I was recently advised by Officer Roman Chavez (HPD Academy) that he had made the appropriate contacts and that cadets in class 183 who are veterans would now be eligible to receive approximately $900.00 a month while attending our academy. Officer Roman advised that the pay would be retroactive to the academy starting date. Thanks for your assistance Officer Chavez.
