Outgoing Houston Police Chief Harold L. Hurtt, has designated Executive Assistant Chief C. A. McClelland as interim Chief of Police, effective at 4 p.m. today (Dec. 30) until further notice.
Chief McClleland, 54, was sworn in to HPD in September 1977. He has been an executive assistant chief since 2004. McClelland has worked within every command in the Houston Police Department during his tenure. Most recently, McClelland served as a commander over Investigative Operations, which includes divisions such as Homicide, Robbery, Narcotics and Vice.
