(Thursday, April 15), the Houston Citizens' Police
Academy Alumni Association will present the Lynn Clooney Memorial Award

At 7 p.m. TOMORROW (Thursday, April 15), the Houston Citizens' Police
Academy Alumni Association will present the Lynn Clooney Memorial Award
to HPD Senior Police Officer David Freytag in a ceremony at the Houston
Police Officers Union building, 1602 State Street.
Senior Officer Freytag, 72, who joined the Houston Police Department 46
years ago and has worked at the North Patrol Division for more than 25
years, is being honored for his volunteer work with the department. He
has spent countless hours forming and fostering the HPD Honor Guard.
His efforts have led to an Honor Guard known for being the standard of
excellence in law enforcement circles. His dedication to the Honor
Guard has served numerous families of officers killed in the line of
duty. Officer Freytag's commitment to the honor guard and HPD has
made him a fitting recipient of this award.
Lynn Clooney was a founding member of the Houston Citizens' Police
Academy formed in 1989. Although she died in 1993, she spent many years
serving the men and women of the Houston Police Department in her role
as president of the Positive Interaction Program (P.I.P.). The Lynn
Clooney Memorial Award was established in honor of Ms. Clooney's
contributions to the HPD and to recognize those officers who "go the
extra mile" to serve the citizens of Houston.
