Officer Injured

Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in which a Houston Police officer was also injured in the 7600 block of South Braeswood about 12:40 a.m. today (Aug. 30).

The female victim, 67, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  The male driver, 71, was also transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in critical condition.

Officer K. D. Dozier, assigned to the Fondren Patrol Division, suffered a broken neck, a laceration to his forehead and unknown injury to his arm.  Officer Dozier, sworn in as an officer in September 2009, was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital for his injuries.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Couch and Officer E. Morgado reported:

Officer Dozier was traveling eastbound on South Braeswood in his patrol vehicle, responding to a call for service with no emergency equipment activated.  A blue Scion driven by the 71 year-old male, with the victim as his passenger, was traveling westbound on South Braeswood and turned left into a private driveway of an apartment complex at 7655 South Braeswood.  The Scion was struck on the passenger side by the patrol vehicle.  The male driver, his passenger and Officer Dozier were then taken to the hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
