HPD to Help Remember Victims in Special Tree Lighting Ceremony
At 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, members of the Houston Police Department Victim Services Unit will join city leaders for a special tree lighting ceremony in the lobby of the City Hall Annex building at 900 Bagby.
Parents of Murdered Children and Surviving Family Members of Homicide are hosting the 16th Annual Crime Victims Memorial Remembrance Tree Lighting Ceremony. Some city council members and members of Victim Relief Ministries are also scheduled to attend.
Family members will place personalized ornaments and photos of their loved ones on two trees that will remain on display throughout the holiday season.
“Holidays are often difficult times for family members who have lost a loved one due to homicide and the event will allow them to share memories with others walking in their shoes,” said crime victims’ advocate Andy Kahan, an administrative coordinator with HPD’s Criminal Investigations Command.
