HPD Reminds Motorists "It Only Takes Seconds
At 10 a.m. TODAY (Tuesday, Jan. 11), the Houston Police Department's Special Operations Division will conduct a burglary of a motor vehicle simulation as part of an awareness campaign to reduce burglaries and auto thefts in the city of Houston. The simulation will take place at 1300 West Memorial Loop at the Tennis Center parking lot in Memorial Park.
Burglary of a motor vehicle (BMV) is one of the highest occurring crimes in Houston. Every two minutes, a vehicle is burglarized in Texas and its contents stolen. Unfortunately, drivers often don't take necessary precautions to avoid becoming car burglary victims.
When vehicles are stolen, thieves have easy access to everything left inside, including garage door openers, house keys, and personal information, which can all lead to additional and more serious crimes.
Through education and prevention, citizens of Houston can avoid becoming victims of burglaries and auto thefts.
