Honoring Fallen Officers

Memorial Bike Ride to Honor Fallen HPD Officers

At 11:30 a.m.  Thursday, April 28,2011, members of the Houston Police Department, along with other law enforcement agencies, will participate in the 2011 Texas Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Bike Trek to honor the memory of officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.

The bike route will leave the University of Houston Police Department at 3869 Wheeler and make its way to the Houston Police Officers Memorial, 2400 Memorial Drive, where a short ceremony honoring HPD Officer Eydelmen Mani will take place.  Officer Mani passed away from injuries sustained while responding to a call on duty on May 19, 2010.

The Texas Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial Trek Bike Ride was started four years ago by San Antonio police officers.  Participants ride to each community in Texas that has lost an officer in the line of the duty in the past year and present a flag on behalf of the Police Officer's Memorial Fund (P.O.M.F.) to remember and honor the officers and their families.

Media interested in following the bike riders should meet at the U. of H. Police Station.
