MINUTES OF THE DECEMBER 1, 2011 MEMBERSHIP MEETING FOR THE HOUSTON POLICE OFFICERS' UNION
OPENING
Pledge of Allegiance and Prayer
BUSINESS
JJ Berry called the meeting to order. George Shaw made a motion to suspend the normal order of business. Joe Gamaldi seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The meeting was dedicated to Officer James C Boswell who was killed in the line of duty on December 9, 1989. Ray Hunt read the dedication and thanked Officer Clay Gainer (Officer Boswell's partner) for the safety guidelines he provided to cadets after Officer Boswell's death.
AWARDS Officer Tim S. Trometer from the Central Patrol Division was awarded the FTO of the Month award for October 2011.
BUSINESS Elections Results JJ Berry read the election results:
Director #15 - Two run off elections were held in this position. First run-off was between OJ Latin, JA "Tony" Mora and Scott Dyer.
The second run-off was between OJ Latin and JA "Tony" Mora.
OJ Latin had 646 votes (57%) and JA Mora had 493 votes (43%). OJ Latin won Director #15
Brian Craft with the Public Safety Financial Group addressed the membership in regard to their deferred comp program and financial planning opportunities. They will be hosting an informational seminar on January 24, 2012 at the HPOU building.
Jack Christie, Council At-Large Position 5 candidate, addressed the membership. He stated that he will encourage the citizens to build a relationship with police officers. He also added that he would honor all current contracts related to our pension benefits.
Council Member Mike Sullivan announced that he is running for Harris County Tax Assessor-Collector and would appreciate our support. Ray Hunt announced that the HPOU PAC will support Mike Sullivan for the Tax Assessor race.
Ray Hunt also advised the membership that HPOU, along with other local police organizations, held a press conference to announce a no-confidence vote against Pat Lykos. He explained that the Union has attempted to meet with her on three occasions to discuss concerns but DA Lykos would not meet. HPOU did meet with DA Lykos on Sunday November 30, 201 but she did not agree with any of the issues that were brought to her attention.

APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP
Gary Blankinship made a motion to accept the 72 new members from Class 211, three new active members and one retired member (see attached list). Gary Bender seconded the motion. The motion was passed by a majority
Ray Hunt advised the membership that the forensic audit would be released as soon as they receive it from the auditing firm.
Ray Hunt also advised that he had recently attended a meeting in Austin and met with NAPO and CLEAT in regard to pension issues. Ray Hunt stressed the importance of PAC and encouraged all officers to sign up. HPOU's goal is to have 51% of the membership to contribute to PAC.
Ray Hunt then announced the door prizes.
ADJOURNMENT
OJ Latin made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Tom Hayes seconded the motion. The motion passed by a majority of membership.
