HPOU backed Joan Huffman defeated Chris Bell in the runoff on December 16^th for the 17^th District Senate seat.  Joan is a former prosecutor who obtained a death sentence for the suspect who shot and killed HPD officer Jim Irby almost 20 years ago.  Joan went on to become a district court judge where she was named “Judge of the Year” by the HPOU.  Joan received 56% of the vote in the runoff and thanked Houston Police officers at her victory party for their support and hard work in getting her elected.
